Ayodhya celebrated its first ‘Deepotsav‘ since the consecration of the Ram temple in January, lighting over 2.5 million diyas along the banks of the River Saryu, setting a new Guinness World Record.

The event included a captivating laser and drone show that illustrated scenes from the Ramayana. It also featured cultural performances by artists from six countries—Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia—along with a Ram Leela presentation from Uttarakhand.

To ensure public safety, around 10,000 security personnel were deployed across the city, with half of them in plain clothes. A special arrangement featured 80,000 diyas arranged in the shape of a swastika at Ghat No. 10, symbolizing auspiciousness and serving as a central attraction of the event.

Security measures included the closure of 17 routes leading to Ram Ki Paidi, allowing access only for pass holders.

The celebration also included a lively procession with vibrant tableaux depicting characters from the Ramayana. This procession was welcomed with an ‘aarti’ by Yogi Adityanath, who personally pulled the chariot carrying artists portraying Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman.

The characters were flown into Ayodhya by helicopter, a nod to the mythical Pushpak Viman mentioned in the Ramayana. The Tourism Department’s tableaux showcased scenes from various Kands of Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas, including Bal Kand, Ayodhya Kand, Aranya Kand, Kishkindha Kand, Sundar Kand, Lanka Kand, and Uttar Kand.

Special displays highlighted significant events from Lord Ram’s life, such as his education and marriage to Sita, the 14-year exile, Bharat Milaap, Shabri‘s devotion, Hanuman’s journey to Lanka, Ravana‘s defeat, and his grand return to Ayodhya, all featured prominently during the procession.

Kashi and Mathura Should Shine Like Ayodhya : Yogi Adityanath at Deepotsav

Yogi Adityanath’s call for Kashi and Mathura to mirror Ayodhya’s glow holds particular significance, as both sites are currently involved in legal disputes over the ownership and control of their temples and religious sites.

Yogi Adityanath emphasized that Ayodhya is viewed as a model for the future development of Kashi and Mathura. During the record-setting Deepotsav, lakhs of lamps were lit in Ayodhya, creating a spectacular display.

The mention of Mathura and Kashi is noteworthy, as both locations are currently embroiled in legal disputes regarding the ownership and control of significant religious sites. Mathura is at the center of the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah dispute, while the Kashi Vishwanath Temple-Gyanvapi Mosque case is also pending in court.

The Chief Minister stated, “The double-engine government has delivered on its promises; now, Ayodhya must demonstrate its potential. We cannot afford a repeat of Maa Sita’s ‘agnipariksha.’ We must move forward, and the people of Ayodhya must rise once more. That is why we gather here today for this grand celebration.”

He continued, “There is still much to accomplish. This is merely the beginning. Ayodhya serves as the foundation for Sanatana Dharma, embodying Prime Minister Modi’s vision of heritage and development, and extending that mission to the global stage. The world is witnessing the grandeur and divinity of Kashi.”

The Chief Minister also emphasised his government’s commitment to transforming Ayodhya into one of the world’s most beautiful cities, adding that he remembers “all those souls who dedicated their lives for the Ram Janmabhoomi movement”.

He also took a jibe at the Opposition, saying that they have become “barriers” to the government’s growth agenda. “Just like mafias, these barriers would also be eliminated,” he stressed.

Over 25 lakh earthen lamps were illuminated along the banks of the Saryu River in Ayodhya on Wednesday as part of a world record-setting attempt to celebrate the eighth ‘Deepotsav’.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the festivities alongside his cabinet members and esteemed dignitaries, including Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak.
