On October 18, the Tamil Nadu Police submitted a detailed affidavit to the Supreme Court addressing complaints and allegations associated with the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore.

This report emerged in response to a habeas corpus case brought by a father alleging that his daughters were being held at the center against their will. However, the police clarified that the daughters, as well as others staying at the center, were residing there voluntarily.

The affidavit from Coimbatore’s Superintendent of Police confirmed that six people had gone missing at the center over the last 15 years.

While five cases have been closed, one remains under investigation. Additional incidents included seven suicide-related cases, of which two are still awaiting forensic reports. Allegations also extended to complaints about expired medicines, non-compliant medical equipment, and an improperly functioning Internal Complaints Committee, required under the POSH Act to handle issues related to sexual harassment. Moreover, a pending POCSO case involving an Isha-affiliated doctor remains under legal review.

Despite these issues, the court dismissed the habeas corpus petition, stating that the father could not control his adult daughters’ lives and advising him to rebuild his relationship with them. The Supreme Court also noted that the Madras High Court’s earlier order mandating further inquiries into other activities at the foundation was unnecessary but allowed ongoing investigations to proceed .
